- Introduction of the local CPA CA exams - Floodgate to bring in the JHK - More foreigners filling up the sexy bank jobs, especially the high paying ones Surely the kids witness these happening/been told by their parents/mentors of the reality happening out there. With higher paying jobs available in other field which require less hours and lower stress, who in the right mind would torture themselves to do Acc and join the big 4 for "sense of achievement" and "self-satisfaction"? These people clearly doesn't understand what are opportunity costs involved. |

LOL the difference is that trash kids who pick cs for the money will burn out and be hardstuck senior dev even after 10 years of experience. The reality is that it's not the field but the person. You could be a legend in big 4 if you are good. If you suck then it won't matter where you go lol. Also tech will always be relevant and there's no limit to it. AI, faster network, newer phone, tech, etc. But that doesn't mean any moron can just study CS and even reach the GES survey salary average. There's a ton of mediocre NTU NUS kids earning 4k while the ones who actually enjoy coding are earning 7-8k |

Same logic applies today. Kids should be wary their ideal choice after 2 years NS and 4 years degree, the world may be in a different climate than today. Who knows what’s 2028 going to be like. |

12 years ago accounting was still somewhat decent, albeit not the most prestigious (the Top 3 was medicine, dentistry and law at least for NUS), but the cracks were already showing at the seams. I still remember BAcc looking down on BBA thinking that the latter was less prestigious or rigorous. The prestige of the course went downhill rapidly after 2012-2013. With the rise of CS as the next newest prestigious major, lots of kids that couldn't or didn't want to study the Top 3 courses quickly hopped onto the CS bandwagon when they would have otherwise chosen Acc. |

What I’m bewildered is how everyone tell me Accountancy is one of the best courses ever and most prestigious outside of Law and Medicine when I was choosing a major Then I did 2 years NS, 4 years degree, and 3 years in Big4 and now people tell me times have changed over the last 9 years Wts? |

Don't hv an over inflated sense of urself pls lol. If you're a BAcc grad from NUS/NTU/SMU, it just means you're kumgong & took a longer and more expensive route to reach the same destination as jiuhukias and Poly kias, and with the same outcomes as them. |
