Unregistered Having worked for CSC for abt 6yrs. I can honestly tell you that all it can give you is lateral experience e.g. Moving from desktop team to Unix. However, if you are an experienced hire, you can negotiate for a high base compared to other companies and do expect negligible increments from there onwards. No Bonuses. Management is always looking for ways to squeeze more from you and not expected to reward you for your efforts.

Have experience in CL and NCS/SingTel

Hi there,

My 2 cents sharing:

CL: Local Small-to-Mid Enterprise, Pay is decent, better than Civil service or Public service

After 10 years in Civil/Public service, I move out to CL. As this is my first vendor posting, I am given a few hundred dollars increment jump on top of my last drawn.

Increment in CL is about 5% for better than average performers. Good chance to interface with senior management (e.g. Asst CEO or VP) in CL. Has AWS and variable bonus. Variable bonus can be pathetic during a bad year (Can be less than 1 month even for good performer).

Org structure is CEO -> Asst. CEO -> VP -> Director -> Senior Manager -> Manager -> Asst Manager -> ....

Working hours can be crazy or rather comfortable depending on the projects/department you are posted to

NCS: Mid size Enterprise, Pay is better than CL.

After CL, I move to NCS/SingTel EDMS. Received a decent pay increment of closed to 17%.

NCS salary package comprises of AWS and Variable bonus. Yet to receive my first salary increment and variable bonus.

Work load can be quite heavy. Have to contribute extra hours at home. Flexible as I am lucky and not micro-managed. Need to take lots of initiative as you are accountable for the progress of the tasks assigned to you.

Heard from Director-level friends that NCS pay better than SingTel. A Director in NCS definitely earns more than a Director in SingTel.

Medical benefits and other benefits are ok as SingTel is a Telco company. NCS staff enjoys same benefits as SingTel staff but is on a different pay scale. So always choose to be emplace on NCS payscale instead of SingTel.

U start as a contract staff for the first 2 or 3 years, heard got people 5 years still never get permanent.

You get a bonus the first month after you renew your contract; about 2 months bonus on average.

You don't get AWS or variable bonus, and your leave and other benefits also lose to permanent staff.

After 1 year, they offered increment to $3000, which I think is ridiculous, 3K is like that average starting pay for all my peers. After 1 year they should be getting 3.3K on average liao + most of my peers are of perm status in other coy.

NCS work culture is what I call bao ka liao...

Basically normal SDLC cycle everyone in the team will be involved in the entire cycle from start to end. You even have to take on the role of call center for the customers!!! On top of doing programming, testing, requirement gathering, application analyst. They is no proper segmentation of who is in what role and does what, you take turns do everything. They only call in the experts from other department if they need help, and they are usually reluctant to help. So yeah, I think the pay is pathetic for a job like that.

Concur with this assessment.
