Close to 5k a month based on gross monthly salary not inclusive of any bonuses?

How much did your degree and MBA cost respectively?

Unregistered Anyone has any advice on how to break into technology or operational risk management in banks for a private school MBA and business and IT degree holder with 4 years of experience in the public service doing technolopgy and operational consulting but has just crossed over to private sector doing regional project management role for a jap conglomerate recently in the Raffles Quay Area.

Higher calibre students also, since the entry requirement is wayyyy higher. As such, they curriculum can be more rigorous. Also, just imagine how competitive the bellcurve is.

The same logic can be applied to the polys. Lower calibre students, not as inclined at learning, as such the curriculum has to be tailored to match their learning capability. If you try to force material with too much depth, the students will just not get it.

Wahkao, I understand what you are going and is also facing a similar situation like your. I suppose the conversation should actually be focused on how to find a job with growth and value that pays well rather than a "niche" role which can vary from people to people.

In fact, my background is worse as compared to yours. I did my undergrad of Business and IT in a private school and graduated in 2010. Then I worked for the top Singaporean university university and some governement bodies for 3 years before taking my MBA in the same private school on a part time basis and graduating this year. Well I won't say I have found my dream role but I am still paid close to 5k a month after a recent job change before graduation.

It is about what you can bring on the table for your prospective employer. Degree is only half of the equation if any. To say that a private school certification is totally worthless is quite irresponsible since they are people from private schools that are also doing decently well in life too so let not look down on people from the private schools. It is just that we have to work smarter than usual. The halo around local uni grad is due to the branding and governmental support

However, honestly speaking, to land into those "niche role" you mentioned like M&A, I would say it takes more than paper to be there. But don't give up.

I am an engineer too. I don't want to look down on myself, really.

However, as mentioned by above poster, it's the attitude and perspective that many here have an issue with.

If anything, this thread should at least serve to make people in similar positions rethinking their strategies. I'm still in the process of doing so...

Anyways, most of the replies so far on this thread seem constructive (to me). This forum isn't that bad a forum to get opinions if more people contribute positively. If TS can't take the criticism (both objective and otherwise), he sholdn't post here in the first place.

lordlad nobody is looking down on engineer (my title is System Engineer in an investment bank so go figure)...

if you read through the thread...we were merely appalled by TS's perspective and almost dismissive of the skills and dedication needed for some of the higher skilled position that he desired...

However, that takes CONNECTIONS !!!
And my friends took NTU MBAs.. Not private unis MBA..

Engineering is not really that bad..

While most engineers are underpaid and we have to compete with cheaper engineers from 3rd world countries with dubious degrees..
At the end of the day, try to find your passion in engineering..

Once you developed your niche skills in your field of engineering, the career can be fulfilling too.

All the best...
hi i am also an engineer with 9 years exp. what degree can i study to get into investment banking?
