If the former, there were some general comments on MDD at 177-179 of this thread. If the latter, its a new dept and all I heard is that the dept head is a nice guy

This type of feedback, maybe can only wait for champions with enough credibility to bulldoze through changes needed. Say on forum, those who unwilling to listen will say anonymous and no accountability to verify further who you mean. Say in person at work, if you small fry may jeopardise your career path, so few will dare to take the risk.
Honestly there are good chaps with leadership qualities in middle management. Team leaders or even division heads who are willing to help their guys out with unglamorous work that senior management or leadership will never know about; who are willing to stick their neck out for their team member(s) when it doesn’t benefit their promotion. But such people prefer to keep low profile and serve quietly, not the rah rah type, so less noticed.

On the contrary, what i hear from them when they leave, is due to really bad egg bosses, and bad egg colleagues, who seem be here forever

My hope for MAS is that some day in the future, the better ones can improve whatever is lacking in corporate culture: psyche safety is one, and I see reluctance to onboard different views in the face of a more dominant opinion as another.
1, Co-create spaces where there can be candid, constructive dialogue between higher ups and staff, so any aggrieved employees can feel safe to be heard in real life. 2, Don’t be too quick to finger others as the ones who need change. Be willing to recognise your own blind spots and where you have contributed to the root of a wrong situation. 3, Top down, defensive approaches are not the way to go as they do nothing to build mutual respect.
Yes, probably this is no different from what other offices are like but I expected way far more of MAS. When the above utopian wishlist has materialised, it will naturally follow that people find less need to come to a forum to air views they can’t do so in the office.

1. Yes. Higher appointment. But question is can you afford the extra time commitment for extra responsibilities in exchange for the extra pay which may or may not be proportionate to the extra hours.
2. It depends. If you comparing against associate or AD, % change will not be as much since salary already higher. If say that year you got some good projects or other positive in your favour, who knows?
I dare say workload for TL differ according to dept, best you observe those in your dept then see whether its something you wanna aim for !
