My family's net worth is only $2m and we are in our early fifties. Are we below average?

According to Credit Suisse Global Wealth Report 2010,

Average net worth is S$335k per adult.
Median net worth is S$39k per adult.
1 million people with net worth over S$94k.
110k people with net worth over S$771k.

Wonderful job Doc. Yeah, I'm also trying to work towards that amount before i retire. Seems like its going to be slightly difficult. Anyway which hospital or clinic did you work in? The company i work for sells products to the medical industry, maybe i might have met you before?

Specialist or GP? Private or government?

Mid 30s local couple, 2 kids, live in hdb 5rm
Nett worth ard 100k, excluding hdb since it is my primary residence.

Contented, no need to scrimp each day, not chasing after luxurious lifestyle anyway
Everyone in good health so far, enjoying everyday spent with loved ones.

We make it a point to donate regularly to charity and help needy.

Maybe a lot of posts here are bs, but if the high nett worth and yet still worry about not enough to retire etc are really true accounts, I feel sorry for u, because life is too short and fragile to live for just $$. If you are blessed with financial abundance, make a difference since you do have more means.

Sorry I don't mean to lecture anyone. Just that in real life, there are many people around us who are barely surviving, spare a thought for them

Mid 40s, Singaporean couple.
Staying in a condo unit.
Total net worth of $2m (includes primary residence).
Combined income of $164k pa.
By definition, we are a millionaire couple.
We are happy with our performance in life so far.
We don't think it is necessary to accumulate to $4m to retire.
We hope to retire by 55.

why dont you upgrade to a condo? enjoy life a bit. give your kids something to cheer about. we used to live in a hdb thinking that a condo is nothing to shout about. we were wrong. a condo residence brings with it respect from your peers and relatives, but most important of all my kids dont go out so often. they rather have fun in the pool or playing tennis. we are living our life to the fullest. i'm sure you can afford a condo, trust me, as long as you dont look at the expensive locations. there are many condos in woodlands and yishun for instance, which are very much affordable.

According to the empirical sample of user entries provided on this forum:

Average net worth is probably closer to $2 million per adult
Median net worth is $500k per adult

Maybe the 64k people referenced in that CS 2010 report all happen to post on this forum together.

Don't need all 64k of them to post. I suspect maybe there are just about 20 - 25 posters only. They are repeat posters, sometimes revealing new aspects about their wealth, at times changing their stories. However, it could be true that they are individuals with wealth. People have tendency to "show" a bit when they have done well.

Young couple 22-05-2013 10:27 AM

We are a young graduate couple in our late 20s. Staying in a brand new BTO which we bought for $250,000. We are happy with our purchase as the resale prices of similar older flats near our flat are already selling at $500,000. Our wait for the BTO was worth it. Our net wealth increased by $250,000 over just three years. Including our other assets, our total net worth is now about $500,000. We plan to save $30,000 per year from our combined annual salary of $125,000. We hope to then upgrade to a new condominium in the West after our MOP.
