bullshit

Do not let the HR snook you , they will tell you contract is no different from permanent establish with same benefits and likely after contract you will be converted to permanent . There is no such guaranty , even if the HR promise you the sky. In the government instruction bible, it is stipulated that contracts should have end of contract bonuses . that is if you complete the contract you get a lump sum at the end. This is to compensate for the uncertainty in the job. Good luck to you if you let the agency HR pull wool over your eyes and you sign on the dotted line with your eyes open. I joined a ministry in Jan - 3 year contract. I was told that only after the current contract will there will be consideration for perm

I've heard that all public agencies start to practice the 1 year probation practice in the new FY17, but positions are still considered permanent, unless explicitly specified as "direct contract" on JD.

I am a professional - I received 1 offer from a statutory board and 1 offer from a professional scheme. Both positions start off on contract, HR told me it's implemented across the board. My friend was offered a "permanent" role at a stat board, although his compensation is lower and his profession is not as well-paid as mine. I am genuinely confused.

Anyway, "permanent" jobs in private sector are 100% subject to restructuring, retrenchment and sometimes judicial management (like the offshore marine companies). Just take what you can get lor.

I know one friend joining IMDA late last year and was on 1 year direct contract before convert to permanent. The 1 year contract period sort of serve as the probation.
I know another case with another stat board very recently where the candidate is offered a permanent position with the regular 6 months probation.
so clearly different stat boards are still on different schemes.

So meaning if the position is written as contract not direct contract, this is subjected to 1 year probation and then will be converted to perm?
