As we approach the new year, I feel very upbeat as I will be 55 next year. It is time to bade farewell to my fast paced corporate world and join my buddies who retired much earlier than me. I was supposed to retire at 50, the typical age for the high flyers to retire. I took a bit longer as I wanted to settle things before leaving.
As I looked back, it has been a hectic 30 years of my life. I was a jet setter, traveling the world. I had little time for my wife and children. My health took a beating too. While those were my biggest regrets, at least I've achieved what I set to achieve 30 years ago. I now own a nice 4 bedroom condo near the city area which is fully paid. I also have built up quite a decent investment portfolio which gives me a nice passive income of $150k pa. Being debt free, my expenses are not high, only $60k pa. My children are now working and earning well. They are getting married soon and moving to their own condos.
I plan to take things easy and focus on improving my poor health. As a hobby, I will be trading stocks on a leisurely basis, not doing day trading though as this will be highly stressful. I will spend my time reading up on companies, attending AGMs and meeting up with old friends.
