WFH/Hybrid

Small firm corp assoc. 1+ PQE

Forced to come office daily only for partner to no show and remote work. Or even show up to work at late afternoon. I’m also sick of one of another micromanaging partner making me do pointless things. Presenteeism is common.

Work doesn’t really come in and I’m often sitting at desk thinking about lunch and going home. Sometimes I stare into space as there is literally nothing on some days. Pay below market rate.

Any seniors can advise on which firms to jump to for Corp. I’m getting tired of going in everyday, with no future.

Which bigger firms offer partial WFH/hybrid? Really hope some seniors can advise here, as every day is getting repetitive. Eat sleep report to work repeat.

Pay here is paltry and significantly lower than market rate.

What about finding some constructive use of the time you spend in the office.

Eg. If no one is there and you have no work due, can read up on cases updates or work on your cv, etc.

Plan nice holidays or breaks for yourself, create a nice desk space etc.

Hope things get better for you soon!

Law and practice is like this…

Anyone noticed the lame “Big 5” citation used again in ST on Monday? Hilarious.

Grass is always greener on the other side. Many people would hope to have your life, just sitting at the desk and doing nothing, getting free money.

Hi I am working in a mid-sized firm. Extremely poor work life balance although pay is acceptable. Should I jump to become an in-house counsel in a government department like LTA? Especially considering that deal flow is poor now and the economy is tanking.

It depends how many years experience you have and whether it is relevant to the company you hope to join as in-house.

If there is no immediate push factor, not possible to hang on at your current position and continue to accumulate experience?

What type of hours is extremely poor work life balance? Coz different people have different threshold haha.

The OP said they are one year PQE.

Aim would be different (learn more, chart clear path, etc). M

Not to mention below market rate pay though not specified. So possibly opportunity cost - assuming there is better vacancy available.

Wah you got first class and in small firm? Either the firm is not that small or competition is really stiff.

Anyway, 4.5-5 is not THAT below market average. Thought you were talking abt 2-3k hahaha.

As others have suggested, why not put your “free” time to good use such as sending out applications? But make sure really no work so that you’re not shirking duties la haha.
