Ya I agree with all of the above posters. I'm working in an American MNC with extremely flexible office hours/work schedule (can work from home, no need to clock in etc) and very family oriented. But all the execs here including the directors/VPs also put in long hours towards the end of a project launch (in marketing).

Recently, I've been going into work at 9 and leaving at 6 recently (which isn't too bad) but on top of that I've been bringing home work and working past midnight. I think working past 9-5 is the norm and obviously your own personal pride and work ethic will command you to do so if you're a project on hand that needs urgent attention....

This is very true. In a previous job, I would come in up to 1hr "late" and sometimes leave early if I wanted to. Reporting to work was more or less only for face time.

But my laptop was always with me. On the ferries commuting between Batam and Singapore, at night in my bedroom/hotel room with my headset waiting for a conference call, with a VPN connection to the files stored on the office server, there was no "office hour".

You really can't have the best of both worlds.

I think you should really find that "balance" by yourself and through discussing with your employer. It looks like this thread is just going to invite more people to complain about their work environments.

Jinnous, I was in exactly the same situation as you 2 weeks ago.
Didn't really enjoy working in the new company, in fact, hate it so much that during working hours, I would go into the toilet to listen to happy music to keep my spirits up. That's how bad it is.

I left after 2 weeks.

IMO, it's just the culture / chemistry problem.
Some colleagues when you see them for the first time, you can just click instantly, others are just stiff and uptight.

I didn't regret quitting without a job, and now in just the 2 weeks, I've gotten 5 job interviews after sending out 12 - 15 resumes, and I've already gotten an offer at another company.

I agree with the other posters, though. If you're confident you can get a job fast (based on your previous job hunting experiences), then go for it. If not, then just have to suck it up and look for jobs while working at this.

I once hated my job so much, reporting time is 9am, I report at 940 almost on a daily basis for the 2nd month. The 1st month I try to SIAO ON and report 830am.

Then into the 3rd month, things still very bad, I reported at 10am once.

EVERY SINGLE DAY I will go home on time at 6pm. Sometimes 550pm on purpose.

Screwing it all up.

When I am working I am listening to music on the earpiece. almost the whole time.

Felt suffocated by the air there.

Yeah, the corporate culture type with groups of people firing bullets at each other.

I got a warning. Then they started to dislike me. One even got into a shouting match with me.

Few days before I left, I screamed like a mad person at one of the nasty colleague. You can bet the person was frightened and embarrassed. LOLXXXXX

This whole thread is sinking into big cannon stories of how disgruntled workers supposedly misbehave and do things that are unethical and bordering illegal.

If you are referring to mine, you can bet your last dollar it's real. If you are interested, I can give you the company name, my 4 colleagues who were in a shouting and screaming match with me. even their Direct extensions. LOL.
