That is apparent, everyone knows, but nobody in this "AML/Compliance/KYC" thread is referring to the legal sphere lol. There is a separate thread for that in this forum.

Hi all
I’m currently in compliance function non AML role
And is interested to move towards AML
I’m wondering how’s the work life balance in AML or TM roles ?
Will there be a need to OT a lot as I heard the timeline is quite tight ?
Someone enlighten me pls

In some banks, AML compliance sit within L&C. However, AML compliance is a completely separate function from Legal. It is monumentally stupid to quote legal compliance salary benchmarks as a comparison. Legal counsels MUST obtain a law degree, whereas 99% of the folks in AML compliance do not have a law background.

There are legal counsels within some AML compliance teams, who specialize in financial crime law, but that is clearly not the role you quoted.

Is it worth it to make a move to MAS as experienced hire
for the regulatory perspective in AML?
Is it easier to get into bank or Fintech with MAS experience?

for a short stint, sure why not. do note life in MAS is very different from private. pace is slower, work is different, objective is different. if you're still interested to move from MAS to private after that, be sure to arm yourself with justification and rationale for the moves. Do you already have extensive exp in private sector?

i am currently a AML consultant. so it is difficult to move from MAS to private sector? just thinking if MAS brand name is good for exit opportunities. .
