How much does a social media executive/manager earn?
I have just been offered the position of a social media & advertising executive for a research science center in Fusionpolis if any of you have heard of Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR). I was asked what is my salary expectation by the professor but I myself am not sure because I don't know what's the market rate for a social media executive. I tried looking around here but it seems like this field is very rare.
I have 6 years of experience in social media marketing and I used to work for a famous digital media agency in hollywood and I have worked closely with high profile hollywood celebrities. I'm in a dilemma because I have no idea how much should I list as my salary expectations. I thought of somewhere around $4.5k-$5k but for a starting pay, isn't it too high for a diploma holder? But if I mention $2.5-$3k, it seems too low, for my experience and skills? Does anyone have any idea how much does a social media executive earn say starting pay? And does qualifications over here play a huge part in the salary because it's not actually relevant if you look deeper because it's more of your skills rather than your cert. I would also like to know if there is any prospect in this field and how fast is a social media executive promoted and what's the difference between a social media executive and a social media manager? Because both titles seem like the same to me but I heard a social media manager earn much more and could earn up to five figures. Thinking of choosing this as my career so I would appreciate any valuable feedbacks! Social media executive - starting pay? Social media manager - starting pay? |

that is what normal company HR does. |

Whether you think academic qualification is relevant is not important, the only thing that matters is you do not join a gov organization telling them academics does not matter. Doesn't work this way. |
You mean ASTAR actually make an offer to you already but then ask you how much you want? Doesn’t sound like the typical gov way of doing things…
Agree with above poster, ASTAR is an average payer by public sector standards, but definitely not as high as paying managers >10k, there must be some miscommunication between TS and ASTAR. IIRC degree grads are promoted to managers within 3-4 years so average pay for managers is likely 4.5-5k. |
is this position exec or manager? 2 very different levels
|
My take is
executive - 2.5-4k manager - 4-6k Diploma holder with 6 years relevant exp will be offered executive grade. A bit unfair, but gov agency is like that one. |
I'm surprised Astar has a dedicated social media team.
private sector pay, taken from job ads... Quote:

Out of curiosity, do social media specialist/manager/analyst work until tight deadlines, overtime beyond normal office hour/weekends? Of they have people who work in shifts?
Is it a job for work life balance with 9-to-5 office hour or work from home arrangement? Is it a very dynamic job where they get special requests from management day-to-day to perform ad-hoc research and report within 1 to 3 hours or same-day? Seems to me the typical job scope revolves around: - surfing social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Internet forums for information relevant to clients (public perception of brands/companies, reactions from netizens for certain news or products - sentiment analysis) - producing regular reports (daily, weekly, monthly) to summarize interesting news from business competitors, industry, sector or netizens' perception of client - compiling certain statistics (number of new posts, positive, negative) and performing analysis to understand netizens' profiles, dynamics and behaviours to improve marketing communication - presenting the statistics and findings to stakeholders to drive changes My understanding may be inaccurate though. Would anyone who has worked as a social media specialist/manager/analyst care to share the typical working conditions/lifestyle and challenges etc.? Thanks. |
