Do you put your photo in your CV?
Just curious. Some people say yes, some say no, both feel very strongly about the opposing view.
Me, I never put my photo in my CV.. I'm wondering if that's the reason why I get called for 1% of the jobs I apply for. |
Why not put your photo and try? Maybe you'll land an interview right away.
I always put, but I seldom look for jobs. |

Yep, exactly what I mean. 2 replies, 1 yes and 1 no. So what's the general consensus?
|
Can I say it depends on what kind of job you are applying for!!
cos management/banking/consultant job may need a photo in your resume cos I hear some say looks really counted towards these kind of jobs(I aint sure hw true it is) When it comes to engineering hell no need !!!!! lol |
I select people amongst the resumes that come through when there's an opening in my firm and i have to admit that if you're attractive looking, with the slightest work related experience you have, i'll get my HR to arrange for you to come down for a chat with the rest of my team.
What i can say is, job opportunities shouldn't be based on appearance but the truth is that if you're good looking, you'll have an easier path in life. I wouldn't say i'm the most capable person with what experience and skills i have over in my resume but i definitely secured enough interviews based on my photo enclosed (bless my mum and dad for good genes) to give me more shots at jobs i'm looking to secure. Bottom line is if you're average looking, skip the photo. If you know you're better looking than most, put that photo in and get that extra edge leading you to more interviews. |

it explains why people fall head over heels over celebrities. |
This is also known as the Halo effect:
Halo effect - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The halo effect is a cognitive bias whereby the perception of one trait (i.e. a characteristic of a person or object) is influenced by the perception of another trait (or several traits) of that person or object. An example would be judging a good-looking person as more intelligent. |
Yes I have placed my picture, bec it seems needed in singapore.
I am extremly good looking but am a fresh grad with no expereience and do not get called back as much. Most places prefer expereince |

It helps.
In my selection, the CV with photos have first priority over the ones without photos, as I deem those without photos as incomplete. I like to deal with people whom I can visualize and the photos on these CVs are the first contact and impression I have of the candidates. I do not select on looks but frankly speaking, I tend to give more time scrutinizing the CV of more presentable candidates. So those without photos, are relegated to the bottom of the barrel. |
i personally put a photo.. for convinience sake, there are job adverts that ask for resume with recent photo.. so why not just put.. unless u dun feel confidence abt ur look
and reading some of the replies from hr perspective, seems putting a photo increases the chance of being called up.. |
atesyv outang
i honestly think it doesnt matter with or without photo.
it is not a necessary requirement. however, should u wan to put a photo, put one that is professionally taken. |
In asia (incl SG), its quite acceptable to put your photo on your CV. But its a big nono overseas.
If they ask for it, just include it. |
just don't put if you are not asked to. I do not think that looking good means you stand a better chance. Sometimes this could work against you.

I applied to several banks. Not a single reply despite a decent CV. My CV picture is professional looking but shows me slightly plump and not good looking.
A class mate with lousier grades gets calls from the same banks. Out of frustration, I re-phrased my CV details and this time included a good looking photo of one of my friends. I got 6/10 of my applications had replies. Of course I dare not go for the interview as they will realise my real looks are different from my CV photos. Btw, from those reply emails which indicate my interviewer names, all of them are males! |
imo, putting a photo in your CV doesnt really help.
if you are not good looking, putting your photo in your CV will definitely reduce the interviewer's inclination to call you for an interview. if you are good looking, if your interviewer is of the same gender as you, more often than not, it works against you eg a highly attractive female applicant may be passed over by a jealous female HR officer. not sure if this applies to males, imo guys are less likely to be so petty LOL ( im a girl btw) |

Looks do matter, regardless of what your teachers or parents tell you. It's a fact of life. If you walk into any MNC or big bank, the higher-paid jobs are almost always helmed by good looking people. Sad but true. Shallow but it's real. This is the good thing about an anonymous discussion forum, where non-politically correct things can be freely discussed. |

When I get CVs coming to me without photographs, I put them aside unless it is really a very impressive one. But most of the time, the ones which I can put a face to (literally) gets my attention.
And please, please do not use cute poses in those photos... I am getting a lot of female applicants doing that and it is really counter-productive. |

If you are applying to a local company, you will probably have to, due to common local practice( I totally look down on this practice as it allows for acts of prejudices and discrimination to take place). However if you apply to a true MNC, do not insert/attach your photo, as it is seen as very unprofessional (but they do understand it is local practice).

If there had been people who ever told you before that your head resembles a dick.. Then i tink it's best not to include a photo and kill your chances before you get invited to an interview...
you can show up and scare them on the actual day when you walk into the room... Will be fun to look at the expressions of disgust on their faces.... |
