For the above group its by choice! Their rational is to achieve the CA designation in 3 years and move on to industry and commerce where their earnings will take a big jump. The increasing number of NUS and SMU grads reporting to big4 in addition to the traditional big group from NTU has resulted in reduced opportunities for ACCA holders and Aussie on campus grads vying to get in.

For SIM-UOL and RMIT grads one needs a first class to warrant consideration whereas for ACCA holders is through working experience.

I have been encouraging the private degree holders to apply for mid-tier that's where your real opportunities are.
If you are a local uni grad, this is how it works:

1) Go directly to industry and commerce and earn big bucks
2) If nobody hire you, farm 3 years in big 4, then go to industry and commerce

CA designation is a new thing, i am not even sure anyone have actually finished the 3 year thing under the scheme. There is still no consensus on whether it is just another "ACCA clone" to make money for ISCA without any real benefits. Everyone is taking it "just in case" but as of now, it is not really a huge step up.
