Confused - is it the right practice or am I shortchanged by employer?
Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone can help me understand this situation:
I've been on a contract job with a company that requires me to perform duties on a daily basis and whenever there's an event (I'm considered an independent contractor that somehow worked like a full time administrator and runner of the company). The contact officially ended months ago and I've continued working on the same terms without a written contract.
Recently I was informed that workload will be decreased and I'll be given a lower pay (I'm now an independent contractor handling only 2 particular projects from this company). I will not need to work on a daily basis. Hence, on the day that I was informed, the arrangement started (i.e. i was informed of pay cut at the start of the month and pay cut began in that month).
I used to work on a project when working on a daily basis and was in the midst of working on it when told of the pay cut. But I was also asked to do a proper hand over of the details for the project. Morally i think it's only right to do that. I'm also facing requests to hand over things that I've done before which I'm no longer paid for doing now.
I'm only getting a little confused because I feel like i've been ordered to handover properly. But am I really obliged to do all these handover when these projects were taken away without any notice period given by the company?
