My experience is that S$1,000 per month will not get you a comfortable retired living in Chiang Mai. Look up on youtube this guy called JC with his retired asia videos. He helps US retirees plan their retirement in TH and he lives in CM himself. He categorizes a retiree with a US$750 pm income as Category 1 ie you live in a 1-bedroom condo or Thai-style apartment and eat mostly street food.

Seriously, if you want a comfortable living and to be able to travel within TH and back to SG occasionally, I think a couple will need B50,000 (S$2,000) upwards, excluding rent.
