There's nothing wrong with being strict in the criteria for the hiring of academicians in
NUS. Those with PhD from US/UK or Singapore have been through tough research regime as compared to those from other Asian countries' universities. Having said that, there are academicians in
NUS from universities originating from Asian countries like Hong Kong, China, and Japan etc.
At the end of the day, we don't want some half-baked PhD grad to come in and teach our young undergraduates do we?
