From another forum, someone shared the sushi apprentice example. If you want to learn under a master chef, you spend years doing grunt work before even stepping into the kitchen. And when you enter the kitchen, you start with washing dishes and chopping vegetables before even touching sushi.
A soba chef in Japan has to apprentice for over 5 years to learn the requisite skills, and three of those are spent just learning how to make the dough.
