Think of the plot in a typical Jin Yong Wuxia drama, these scholars simply have higher inner strength than you, hence, they are able to advance very quickly.
For the rest of us, our inner strength is limited hence, we are farmers. If we try to be like them, we would 走火入魔 instead, like the many antagonists in these same type of dramas.
