Uh not really. Isn't this just called being a criminal defence lawyer? Lots of old fogeys from the criminal bar are serving social deviants and inmates on death row every day, and they're certainly not the most cerebral types of lawyers to have studied for an MPP or whatnot.

Btw there's no such thing as a real "administrative law" practice in Singapore because we have a weak administrative state. By that, I mean there are very few, or very few layers of quasi-judicial bodies and regulatory agencies with decision-making powers that require legal advice to interact with or to challenge their decisions. Most challenges of administrative law decisions are appealed straight to the High Court anyway. Hence, this kind of work is still done by your typical commercial litigation lawyers.

An MPP is really if one aspires to support policymaking and being a bureaucratic scrub in some Govt Ministry. The law background is useful but not necessary.

The only real role that allows you to interact and draft legislation is in AGC's Legis division. But you don't need an MPP for that, just a law degree and assuming you're good enough to get hired.
