Office politics happen in many places, though the degree may vary across different companies. So do not assume there is no office politics in other companies. However, you should talk to more people to better understand the culture and people in your target new company.
Do not have the mentality that your current company or next company is the place that you will work for till retirement. Most important is to build up relevant experience to increase your market value to where you want to go to in the future.
