For SPOs, you're expected to do everything a junior officer aka Personal Supervisor does, and then more, since you're in a leadership position. That includes coaching your staff and all the administrative backend office work. You'd spend less time on the ground since you'll be handling all the admin matters, but nowadays SPOs will likely tank a lot of things since activities are increasing while manpower remains lean.

To add on, SPOs usually get posted after training for 2-3 years at a Housing Unit as a foundational posting. Thereafter you'll be posted elsewhere to the many other departments where you may not be directly interacting with inmates but of course your work will still revolve around them.
