For your information, the pharmaceutical companies that you mentioned in your reply are also cutting their global headcount. These companies are facing a double whammy of expiring patent protection on their drugs and increasing competition from generic drug manufacturing companies. Please read the "in the pipeline" blog for if you are interested in working in the pharmaceutical industry.
