The problem is systemic. You might get a good supervisor, but if you’ve got high aspirations and want that translated into high pay, Exxon has already followed the Singapore SME Style - company spend millions here and there but when come to performance bonus, nothing. All spent on everything else but employees.
I don’t blame the US side per se, it’s the asian culture which has seeped into management. Everything want cheap, demand the heaven and earth from the employees but we cannot be displeased. Else get marked.
