Coming from someone who works with PMP certified project managers, these people need to have minimum 3 years experience in project management, deputies and its members are counted before they are eligible to take the certification.
The PMP is just the first step to becoming an effective project manager. You also need to know the products/services you are running the project for. You must be familiar with the existing product/service realizing roadmap, the company operations, its internal and external stakeholders. You must also have strong EQ and an assertive personality at the same time. Missing deadlines can be costly.
Ultimately, it is about delivering good quality products/service on time and reeling in the dough.
