What is your current grade? 4 years in the service is enough to have you being appointed SH/LH provided that you have shown the right attitude and possess the aptitude to do so. Getting a good grade for appriasal merely justify the work that you did as compared to the other officers of the same sub grade. It might or might not reflect your ability to lead, this is especially so for geo 3 and below where main focus is on T&L.

What AFI did your RO mention to you? And what made you think that they have hinted you on going the teaching and specialist track?


If you have already sounded out to your RO, finding opportunities to speak to your P will seem ok. Instead of barging into his/her office and demand a leadership role, centred the discussion on your career progression. Make clear the department that you would like to develop in. At times, ROs might not find themselves in the position to bring up such topic, even during ranking.
