ok. let me give u the benefit of the doubt you are really some super bright kid and asking questions here. 1. If u join army/civil service for the money , then u will be sorely disappointed as of course there will be people whom will be better than you. ie finance sector folks, private sectors high flyers , etc Even in the army, there is likely those President Scholars whom will be a class above your pay. 2. Alternatively, if you believe you can cut it out , and do finance and have the personality to succeed there... Then of course, you can try that route. And if you succeed to be best in your class in uni, of course companies will come knock and showering you with job offers. The difference in being top in uni is vastly different from being top in JC. To decide, you may want to spend time understanding why you even want a scholarship ? If you think the scholarship is the road to comfortable life... ie fast promotions in civil service, attain BG by 40... my goodness... maybe u need to ask yourself, did you top your JC or within top 50 in SG ? Cos that what you are comparing yourself to. Finally, the nail in hammer to success in army or uniform (cos there is also civil defense , police etc) scholarship, can you take the physical demands. That is definitely one thing different from the others in that there is a lot of days where you will be just another officer (even high flier ones do this) sweating out on the weekends doing army stuff. In the complex world of finance and "M&As" etc, the other side is also true ie long hours crunching documents, models and fine tune presentations etc. Making money is easy if you can succeed in any of these areas. The issue is more like, what do you like to do. Solve people problem ? Crunch numbers, Analyse stats ? like working in team ? Prefer doing things fast by yourself ? Try doing a personality test if you really dont know. Quote:

SAFOS is very difficult to get. Need to have stellar achievement beside academic and by now you should have been nominated by your jc if not try SAF Merit. For lucrative internship in top financial institutions, you also need to display potential amongst those who achieved top academics unless you are ds of a multi-millionaire or have deep connections. |

I think pay is important and we're all commenting because this is salary.sg but seriously, how can you compare? Of course, you can stand to earn more when you're in the private sector.. but there is a reason why people like LKY are put on a pedestal while you hardly give two shits about investment bankers after they die. It's a much, much bigger undertaking and one that should be taken seriously and sincerely for public good. Reading your post.. I think you should just run for dogcatcher. |
