I know the degree is kinda general but at least it's from a sorta recognised uni, so im kinda concerned about my career prospects. I want to enter academia and become a lecturer or even an assistant prof if im lucky, but I know I must get a phd first. Anyone here can share exp on gaining admission to phd programmes? What should I aim for, a phd in econs or finance or accounting?

I understand business phds get paid more but are more competitive to enter.
How are the prospects like for academic hires at nus, ntu, smu? Is it hard to become part of their faculty now that they seem to be soo highly ranked in the uni leagues? And what is the salary like in nus, ntu ,smu if anyone chances to know?
LSE is a good school. My advice is to do a master degree in a top university in the states and then a PhD in another top university.
