Unregistered There will be caveats and conditiosn in the appointment letter as well, such as 2 week termination before confirmation, etc...
So, they know they cannot keep you.
So, the best position is really to call the HR and explain in a very nice way why...NEVER use $$ as a reason even if it is!

Unregistered If it is a general sort of position then going back on your word has less repercussions. But if it is a niche industry where the players are few and you might actually cross paths with your erstwhile employers then think hard. You would be known as a not-very-reliable person who doesn't stick to his/her word.

That's the idea here - an agreement is an agreement - whether verbal or written. The purpose of a written agreement is the ease of proving it. But when we agree to something, we should keep our promise whether or not it is written down.

Unregistered can u imagine if ur gf accepted but rejected ur proposal 3 days later? how would u feel?

agree with you, the company is stupid and is waste it $$$. They also waste time and $$ to process the paperwork on the new employee and make company pass and then again to process for him to tender....

while for the employee, if i was him, I will just go work and then surf net and apply job and use the photocopy machine to print my resume/cert.....No point the company will train a guy who is tendering....if happen to have interview during the notice period, just take MC and go interview, who care!!

Alas, it happened to a friend of mine. She had to serve the 1 month as an employee to avoid paying the new employer she signed up with. I personally found it counter-productive for both parties.
