i believe your cabin crew pay is even much more than a managerial position in the hospitality sector. you need to have passion to be in the hospitality sector.

Unregistered I graduated with a dip in tourism but realized that even with a degree, I still have to start from the bottom... same rank and pay as people with ITE cert etc. Besides I've heard so many stories of how hard it is to climb to front office mgr, and the roles along the way to FOM pay very little compared to many other industries.

Though it is my passion im thinking of switching to some other industry. In Singapore its quite hard to go for passion when everything is so expensive ha ha Moreover the jump from FOM to RM/GM is terribly hard and near impossible it can take 5 years or more with no guarantee, other careers are much easier it seems. By the time climb to GM alr can retire ha -.-

Intercontinental Hotel Group Grad Program

Hi everyone, saw that this is the most relevant thread to hospitality thus far so shall post my question here.

Anyone knows how's the income and career progression like for a fresh uni grad to enter into hospitality careers? Will it be difficult in terms of income progression if I am looking towards hospitality careers within our local market? FYI i do not have any work/study experience in hospitality. I am a business undergrad.

I just found out that IHG is having a fast track grad program 18 months. They wrote this on their website for an I-Grad:

aiyo cannot la. by the time i qualify to even be considered for promotion to LS i'll be 28. However the retired bohtong.org guy said a more realistic figure will be around 5yrs. Byt that time i 30-32 years old already.

What i notice is SIA pays well for the first few years (junior position i.e the blue sq girl uniform - i mean starting pay of 4k is alot of a fresh grad) but there's a glass ceiling (Inflight supervisor gets the most 7k only) and the constant renewal of contract is so unpredictable.

I realize it's much better to just serve and build up a career in civil service if you plan on having a family. from the discussions here i see that most mid-30s non-scholar civil servants already draw in excess of 7k. The goal of eventually retiring at the mx10 or even mx9 rank is definitely worth slogging towards.

if possible, wait till u get LS first then leave. With supervisory experience, your prospects will be better

Depends on what you mean by manager. A lot of low paying executive jobs are called managers in hospitality, so those you can try.

GM not possible lar, how to convince a hotel to hire a someone with 3-4 years waiter experience as GM?

Most stewards move on to become property and insurance agents. Stewardesses have much more options, though.

Hi Daryl, are you from those industries mentioned? Do you mind sharing your view on the Aviation/Airline industry? I'm considering to step into this arena with an Diploma Engineering Cert with little Administration experience but I have totally no interest in Engineering so aerospace is totally out of question. I hope that anyone could guide me some path in the industry, and contribute greatly to our country's aviation business. Cheers!

Agreed, for eg. the kind of pay his Sales Director earn is roughly equiavalent to our Key Account or Sales Specialist.

The term GM is also too broad as pay will be very different depending on the size of the operations. The hotel being 5 stars does not determine GM pay, the stars only good for marketing to customers.
