Yes, there's 2k SVC officers and I haven't seen them all. But I have been in the local tech scene for a long time, long enough to be convinced that service group is a horrible place.

GDS folks going to SVC for safe haven? Maybe because your turnover is so high, you have a lot of spare headcount.

If you don't recognize the mediocrity that is service group, then you must still be new, naive or delusional.

AR need both GDS/SVC and GDS need SVC as agencies give Headcount.

While CE mentioned some stability but that didn’t run away of HC transfer de la.

Without SVC which is 50% of GVT, I think can forget about AR or GDS because we are the single biggest customers served by GDS or those SI.

Is ok to be trash in your eyes cos we cannot control how one thinks, but we are those trash that give you a job
You think too highly of service group. I have a job because agencies are requesting for systems to be built or maintained. Similarly, you are dependent on agencies too.

I also from SVC, I must say, some SVC folks is really cannot make it too hence managed out… then again is very extreme cases.

SVC PM/DBA/CIE all kio sai… like audits and even is GDS fault also become SVC fault….and don do those very rosy job like our GDS colleagues. This is why SVC requires certain experience to manage users and GDS can just heck care

I can name an example or two, but not revealing their exact names.

One of the earlier projects I was involved in. Service group PM was in the initial stages and part of the BPR. Kept rejecting the requests of the users, told them "simple simple description can already". Management consulting company produced the final document, but we could barely use it. Ended up had to do some BPR ourselves before we could get a flow that meets their needs and policies. TLDR; PM mismanaged requirements gathering and ended up with a BPR that was a poor fit.

Another project. PM was nothing more than a message router. Constantly forwarding checklists to us without vetting the contents. More than half could have been filled it by them. TLDR; PM was only concerned with ticking items off checklists.

Oh, I did work with a wonderful BA from service group before though. No nonsense, worked very well with the PO and the engineers and prioritized the needs of the agency. Helped to get user buy-in and the outgoing vendor to cooperate, data migration went smoothly. Her colleagues didn't like her though so she transferred out soon after. Truly a breeding ground for mediocrity.

Ya loh, we SVC write papers to get project funding and headcount to hire them. When the engineers screw up, we still need to seek to explain to bosses and seek risk acceptance.

I am from one of the largest ministries, and I can tell you nobody is being asked to leave. In fact, we are getting more PCs. The GDS folks who are working on our ministry's projects are the ones asked to leave.
