Unregistered agreed. most hair dressers should be in the range of S$2,500 to S$4,000 (good months).

anything above S$4k you probably need to be either
1) very good
2) above average in an established salon
3) open your own salon

From the replies above, it sounds like Hairdressers would commonly start at around $2k, and rise up to $5k+ (at director level)?
Starting is more like 1.6k apprentice level. Then slowly with experience and regular customer you can get the incentives and some basic pay increase to hit 2k. You will need at least 2 years to to reach such level assuming no screw ups.

As for $5k+ those are only for "top performers" who can gain expert recognition in the industry and companies after couple of decades, most hair dressers will never reach that level no matter how long they work. Fact of life.

Unregistered It would help if TS can explain how he got the 50%/30% commission numbers. Don't sound plausible for a hair dresser to make 5-8k monthly, this is much higher than most diploma and SIM degree holders.

For those solely on commission, you will keep the money and pay all the fix charges associated with using the place regardless of how many hair you cut. No landlord/saloon is going to be dumb enough just allow ppl slack there and then do a few hair here & there and draw a % as commission.

5.3k need to be director level in a branded hair salon. Most hairdressers do not make above 4k. A lot of malaysians in heartland salon are settling for 2k+ only.
to add on this. if salon provides packages such as selling top-up credits. hairdressers (salesman) will also have commission on it as well. i would say for a "salon" they should be between S$2,500 - S$4,000 (depending on amount of regulars, hair services like coloring / rebonding / etc.)

S$2k+ probably for smaller salons or amateur level.

Doing a quick estimation on income per month (leaving out other services such as Hair Colouring for simplicity):
1) 50% commission per cut
2) 1 cut = 30 mins. Total cuts per month = '4 weeks' * '6 days/week' * '15 cuts per day' = 360
3) Total monthly income = $49 * 360 * 50% = $8,820 per month

That's a lot..
Haha a hairdresser contributes nothing to rent, consumables, business overheads, utitlites etc. and you expect a 50% commission!? LOL.

Depends, def wont be 50% comissions. The typical hairdresser is 2k plus nia. Earnings go to boss. boss certainly earn a lot if right location. Same thing with most of the jobs outside.
