Is HR a good career to go/switch into?

Coming from a traditional engineering, been getting by with 7 years in the line and getting fed up with the prospects. Whenever I look for jobs on linkedin I see a lot of that the recruiters aka Talent Acquisition Partners are also once in technical fields. Why did they switch to do HR I wonder?
