If not yet my advice is to stay in the current job till retirement. Only 10-12 years more to go, if you just jump out and take up jobs that have nothing to do with your experience, not only confirm pay cut but high chance of not working out. If it doesn't work, you are pretty much screwed at your age. No way to recover. |

Career Switch at 50. Hi, I will hit 50 next Apr, and I'm in dilemma with my current work. I'm in an IT industry. I have few certs on hand, but, I've yet had a real experience with them. In my 25 years of career, I have been doing lots of areas from Ops to Administrative duties. I dare say, Jack of all trades, but master of none. It's in our contract that, we are to rotate in our industry so that we are not left out. However, I find that this culture doesn't apply in the real IT Industry. I have thought of moving on, but, uncertain if I'm able to contribute. I'd also thought of a career switch, teaching perhaps, however, going back to class for teaching courses isn't easy as well.
