CareerSG Salary is one thing. I appreciate what I have but I understand compared to the standard within the company, it is nowhere near where it should be.

As why I wanted to jump. I am at a good situation now where everything is working fine and things are as good as they can be (manageable). I believe this is a good time to move as there is no pressure to move, as when there is a pressure to move then It would be really difficult to find the next good job in that timeframe.

So you're saying in a change of job, anything up to 50% is possible. Are we at that time yet or we are still at near 0% time?

lazyplane Hi,

I am not sure why you want to change your job. But before doing so , i suggest you need to evaluate if you are looking for a change in the industry, (ie out of technology ) or just a change in company.

Just a thought, are you upset or considering a change in job because you feel you are not paid the "average salary" for the position you are holding ?

In hard times, a zero salary increment is possible for a change of job.
In good times, anything up to 50% is possible. Average is 10%-20%.

Seeking advice on Career jump

I am seeking advice on a plan to find s new job after being employed quite long in a company. I am work in a technology MNC slightly over a decade, in different positions (moved every few years, in my 4-5th positions).

Joined the company in 2001 @ 4.5K and now drawing ~10.5K base. For those years, I had missed on increment about 3 times due to bad times overall as in the company and some years with significant increase due to expanded responsibilities, lastly few years with almost no increment.

The role ranges from an IT specialist, Project Manager now to a business manager. I'm close to my mid-30 and is a local on a local terms.

My questions:
1) Since I am in the company too long, have I missed a normal increment if I were to move from one company to another every 2-4 years?

2) For a regional business role with P&L responsibility, is 135k/annum a good package? The 'standard' salary in the company for the exact same grade is 180k/annum, had been in the grade for a few years but no way to catch into the 'average point' in the grade

3) If I were to move into different company, what could be the reasonable 'expected' increase from current salary? Bear in mind that the new position bear higher risk, and perhaps fewer leave and other benefits

4) Does the new 'expected salary' discussion with other company HR or headhunter is always pegged to certain common percentage and not what the position should be paying?

5) Should I accept a same salary or slight downgrade to get a fresh change? (Nothing wrong in current position, no pressure to leave)

Thanks....
