the recent ASPIRE by the MOE do affect the some TSO in the polytechnic While those TSOs from the facilities management are not affected because their job is routine such as tender of site, meeting contractor and site inspection. Many of the TSOs in the facilities department from the oldest polytechnic are holding the grade 2-3 which is 6-7k |

TSO rank with Lecturer ? Totally unfair, officer compare with sergeant, the officer already a mile ahead before the race start, the sergeant has to sprint all the way rather than running. Brainless management system, those salary fall in the range of $4K really suffer, how can they be compared with someone getting 6 to 7k !!!! |

The strange things on earth is that these TSOs are rank together with the Lecturer holding the PAX5-6 during the appraisal . Diploma holder and degree/PhDs lecturer are under different scheme/salary but put together In the same basket . One is teaching and another is support |

Bo pian lorr... Fact of life. In academic or research environment... paper qualifications rule. And among those with the same paper qualifications, perhaps their achievements or reputation will then determine the pecking order. In poly, the lecturers are either bachelor or many are masters degree holders. Anything less than that, such as the TSO diploma qualification, will automatically relegate to lower rung. The masters degree holder also will have to eat humble pie in a university or research centre, because the top dogs are the PhDs... the degree holders can only do the admin and support jobs... ha ha ha. |

TSO, like in many educational institutions here, are placed under the Administrative, and not Academic group. That means they are also roped in for all kinds of admin duties, especially during endless events year-round like open house, sec school visits, graduation, VIP visit, etc. All this beyond their technical specialty or main job scope of running a lab or workshop. Even when they do their lab or workshop duty well, giving good support to the Academic / lecturers group, the grateful or appreciative acad staff can't do much to recommend or credit them, because the TSOs are all under a different group!! (admin - that includes the usual office general admin, buyers, etc.) As in any PS or CS job, I don't recommend young people going for this... your skills stagnate and eventually you'll be stuck there. The job is actually quite 'iron rice bowl' - despite the contract - and that's actually the problem! |
