A*Star career progression

Hi, I would like to make some enquiries and seek for some sincere advice from folks within this forum.

I am currently holding onto a research engineer position in one of the non-bio related research institution within the A*Star consortium. I am ok with the environment and the job scope, which focuses on the research of functional based coatings for the aviation industry. I was wondering if anyone within or have experience working in A*star setting could be kind enough to advise me on my career progression?

A little more about myself; I come from a material science background but I don't have a phd. I have spoken on a few occasions with my immediate superior and that his advice is the most non-phd holders will quit within a few years and move on to a relevant industry. So any chances for me to take up R&D positions with private enterprises (e.g. will they recognize my experiences gain or will they expect you to start all over again as a junior chemist?)
