Applying for a manager position in HQ, not those constituency manager, etc. Does fresh grads start off as manager? I think PA no longer offers asst manager. I have 5 years of relevant working experience. How much should I ask for? Currently drawing 4k pm.

Read from other threads that PA is using PAL scheme. Understands that PAL 6 is the starting grade for fresh grads. Should I ask for at least PAL 5?

Anyone in there can share more info? Tks!
Just go in there and if successful wait for the offer letter. Then either take it or leave it. Everything is fixed by HR policy and PA doesn't do salary bargaining for junior positions, so whether you "ask" for anything is irrelevant.

Generally for 5 years experience, a manager position is a little too junior for you, but still within the range. They will probably offer you ~4.2-4.5k based on my exp.

how bad is the odd hours issue? do the reimburse with timeoff ?
I'm not sure if official, but my boss use to allow me to take half-day morning off every wed unless got event/meeting.

As for hours, every sat if minor stuff only I pop by at 8am and go off about 11. If there is a major activity with VIP then depending on the timing, mostly is about 6am to 2+ afternoon.

Sunday is more occassional (once every 2-3 weeks), but either very early or late timings. I ever arrive 4am before to supervise the organizing contractors. If there are dinner events by the time of debriefing it would be midnight, next monday still need to turn up on time.

As for late weekday nights on average is 1-2 days per week, but usually by 11pm latest should be able to go back.

That's the routine for my branch, but I think the details will be different depending on branch and how "on" your constituency MP is.

yes i noticed that their titles sound big. Fresh grad probably go in as AM.
Thus for me to get an MGR may not be a promotion.

i thought they were decent paymasters? Cos i heard that they also implemented PSB market adjustments, where some other stat boards didnt. Not true?
I don't know about latest specific - left >2 yr ago.

Gross package wise they are slightly lower than ministries, so still decent in the market. If you take into acc the odd hours then it becomes quite low.

Promotion prospect is very limited. It takes at least 10yrs to reach director which is very slow compared to pte sector as most ppl will reach the equivalent of AM or Mgr in 5+yrs.

Like I say if you are going to keep talking about pay/prospect etc., PA really isn't the org you should be joining. You join them only if you live & breath grassroots.

I made the mistake of joining them fresh out of uni cauz they gave me a mgr title together with managing a team of 5 pax. At that time I thought since pay was decent and good chance to develop my leadership skills and jump back to pte sector after that.

It was bad mistake as the practices are archaic and not really relevant to the biz world and my so called team were a bunch of old timer clerical uncle/auntie who run their own show and heck care what I say. I wasted 1.5yrs there and end up getting another fresh grad job & pay in a decent GLC now.

oten A few things about PA:

1. Salary lower than ministries

2. Need to help out often in weekends / PH

3. Big title, Manager = Executive, Director = Assistant Manager outside

4. Must really like grassroots activities, if not you will burn out since there is very little money to motivate.

A Career with People's Association (HQ)?

Hi all,

Going for an interview soon and got some qns in my head.

Anyone knows if PA implemented the PSB salary adjustment; i.e. how competitive are the salaries?

Heard that need to work weeknights and weekends etc. Any allowances and how much?

Also, is it true that PA's basic exec position is Assistant Mgr onwards? i.e. Their AM is just a basic executive position (degree holder)?

Hope guys out there can held shed some light and comments!

thanks!
