Yes like what Steve Jobs said: Don't settle. Stay hungry, stay foolish.

The best way to stay hungry is to be foolishly out of work.

I would suggest you to join a high starting pay job; ie those abt 4k one as your 1st job...after 3-5 years, then jump ship to another company and request eg 20% more when jump ship....and continue from there...

If you take up the 2.9k job, next time you jump ship will have a disadvantage..

It is simple math:
Assume no promotion in the company after 3 years, with 4% annual increment:
2900 x 1.04^3 = 3262 >>> jump ship 20% more = 3914
4000 x 1.04^3 = 4499 >>> jump ship 20% more = 5398

see the difference!!!

If banks can go up to 4.6k for associate.

How much is paid for a fresh graduate Software Engineer?

I am graduating from NTU in this coming June. A reputable technology company has offered me slightly less than S$3000 per month. Some of my friends work for some start-ups or banks and they earn up to 4k+ per month for an IT-related position.

I don't really know whether I am under-paid or not. Can anyone tell me what the market-standard salary for a fresh software engineer is? Do all of technology companies pay the 13th-month salary? Thank you very much.
