To respond to OP: no, it’s not common practice to have activation relay on weekends. Probably just your school leaders or KPs. Expectation for ranking is whether officers meet their KRAs and not whether you check Whatsapp on your weekend (but of course if there is a genuine emergency, officer should respond nevertheless). If you find your management direction is not a good fit with your competencies or disposition, consider applying out upcoming OPE exercise.

You failed to mention whether it was a legitimate emergency or just a drill/spurious activation.
Technically, in case of exigencies of service, we are expected to be responsive. But this only applies to genuine emergencies.

Although MOE highlights that the last day of a term is Eat with Your Family Day, my school activated this emergency relay messaging the very next day (Saturday). Some staff did not mange to response in time to the relay system as it was a weekend message.
May I know if this is something according to the HR protocol? Is is this something activated because ranking is near? Some trs on the ground are feeling anxious as the school culture has not been too positive....

This used to be true 20 years ago. But these days to even enter nie, the 10th percentile for science (education) is ABC, compared to CCD for engineering. Even accountancy and business 10th percentile is BBC

Yes we have a lot of ground experience but that does not translate automatically to policymaking expertise. Like it or not, if you choose to take up a policy role, you are starting from scratch alongside direct hires on the MX scale. It’s normal to report to ADs and DDs who have been in the line and have greater domain knowledge. The track you seek to pursue thereafter (extend HQ stint, convert to MX, return to SD) is up to you.
