rapier82 | Thanks for the reply guys. Think alot of places are moving towards offering contract positions first cos of the higher turn over in the newer generation of workers..not too sure if it's the only reason though. It's not very good in my opinion cos the incumbent will not be considered for any promotion during the contract period..and even if he/she gets converted to a perm position after a year, I wonder whether his/her performance appraisal would begin from that year onwards or would performance during the contract period be considered as well? Iz anybody's guess.. | |

that is usually the case. ironically a few years ago i had 2 colleagues - one who was very good and got confirmed after one year. the other was so-so and was only confirmed after 2 years. the first one left after 1.5 years because he felt bored with the job scope and joined a mnc. doing quite well. the other chap stayed and still doing so-so till now. so what are the benefits of this contract position favored by civil service? i can't say i understand. |

Question about contract jobs in Ministries Hi, would like to enquire if it is a norm that all Ministries in Singapore offer 1 year contract positions before considering converting the employee to permanent status, subjected to good performance? Thanks. |
