I have been with this small foreign bank in Singapore performing internal consulting role for 3 years, just had my 1-1 session with my boss few weeks ago and were informed that no promotion for me for this year due to bell curve and quotas available.

The slight disappointment feeling still stuck in my head despite I do not wish to hope for much miracle this year. But needless to say my performance has been consistently above average in the past 3 years and it is recognisable by other colleagues in other departments

Hence, question is, after 3 years as Manager, should I still continue to work for this organisation, or I should start looking for higher position at other banks in hope to jump out and up at the same time? I'm concerned that 4 years may be too long in this organisation and I may not have the capability to move around that much anymore as my age goes by.

Thanks for all the tips and comments.

Are u a good manger? are you the kind that keep pressuring people working under you? You sound very ambitious and very goal driven, U dun sound singaporean too

anyway count your blessing to have a job, I wish I can have the stability of you working with good friends and colleague and keep your position as Manager, why are u complaining? How much promotion is enough for you?

You already mentioned you are in a small foreign bank. What do you expect? Promotion every year? Really? And then go on to say you want to look for a higher position in other banks. Your level of entitlement is near to delusional. What makes you think other banks want to even hire you let alone hire you in a more senior position. Especially bigger banks. Afterall you are only in a small bank for 3 years. Not 10 years. Please la. Stop thinking you are special. You are a dime a dozen. Companies can easily get hungrier, more experienced FT for the same price they paid you. Count your blessing you still have a job. Because you won't be able to find any especially in this environment.
