if i would do it again, i would
- invest in endowment policies and pick up an annuity for retirement savings
- go for dbs shares. they can pay $0.30/share every quarter

Default Singapore Civil and Private Jobs

Civil Servants have the best of all world. The work of any agencies are stable, there is no retrenchment and many of the people can even work till 62 or senior management even more as advisor.

Singapore has changed so much where in private it is a dog eat dog environment and civil is such a safe haven.

Work is stable and make bosses happy and successful that's all.

What's a change!

28M & 25F (both average software engineers with above average income)

Cash: 110k
Investment: 90k (IWDA & SG reits)
No house cos we have no luck in our bto ballot

Not planning to get a car but probably will get children

We are certainly fortunate with this crappy economy and hopefully we can be FI by 40

Smile How to Measure Net Worth

Normally, one measure's net worth without including the property they stay in. Measure net worth after one has bought and owned his/her own property, eg HDB flat or private housing.
At 35, an average employee may take the first step to buy a HDB flat for a start.

34 yr old couple, annual combined around 250k

Fully paid BTO HDB inclusive of CPF refund now worth around 800k

Fully paid new car bought last year at 140k

Around 300k in cash and investments excluding cpf

Looking to upgrade when BTO MOP later this year.

In casual conversations with friends it seems that people tend to think that car owners are ridden in debt and spending sizable of our monthly income on car expenses which is not true at all. But I didn't want to correct them and would rather keep our financial situation a secret.

Spending on car is relative. With 250k p.a., spendings on a car seems neglible since you have no housing loan.

It's true that some ppl like to think that others are over leveraging and only appear rich in the outside but full of debt inside. This makes them feel better about themselves.
