the problem with that is that you will be doing out of no choice. At an old age, you want more choice, not less choice.
And then if you say prefer to live that type of life in sarawak, then of course you are deceiving yourself because if that was so, why aren't you in sarawak already.

the reason why no average guy will share their stories like you is because noone likes to be average. It is human nature to want to be the longest, thickest and biggest, whatever it is. It is human nature to want others to envy whatever it is.
Nobody will come to this forum if everyone only has a 3 room flat and 8 yr old car.

I'm 52 this year, and I only own a 4 room flat. I own a 8 year old car. I have no loan. My flat is now worth $500k and I have some cash and CPF. I think my net worth, including the 50% share of my flat, is only $400k.
Can more of you average guys share your stories?

My family's net worth is only about $2.6m. We live in a brand new condo (new 99 years lease) and a conti car. Both are fully paid. We are in our late 40s. We are just average Singaporeans, with average wealth.
Do you have average wealth like us?

Read this. You are doing better than average. Keep it up.
For me, my net wealth is higher at $600k, my wife's net wealth is $500k. We are a millionaire couple. Our HDB flat is now worth $700k. We are very happy that our asset appreciation policy has worked well.

Average wealth in Singapore up 6.8% to $351,998: Credit Suisse
By Yasmine Yahya
After dipping in 2011, total wealth in Singapore rose 8.7 per cent over the past year to reach US$1.1 trillion (S$1.37 trillion) by mid-2013, private bank Credit Suisse has said in its latest Global Wealth Report.
Most of the rise was due to Singaporeans' high savings rate and asset price increases.
Average wealth per adult also increased, by 6.8 per cent over the past year to US$282,000 (S$351,998). This makes Singapore the second wealthiest nation in Asia Pacific in terms of average wealth per adult, after Australia.
The report defines wealth as the value of financial assets plus real assets - mainly real estate - minus household debt.

The average wealth per adult Singaporean is $352k. Assuming you and your wife's net worth is $1.3m each, you both are way above average. I think you both are in the top 5% of Singaporeans in terms of net wealth. You both have made it. Well done.

Just be happy. Believe in what makes you happy.
I have a friend who gave everyone of a dinner treat to celebrate his promotion which brought his income to $150k pa. He was very happy. Then some big mouth hao lian to him that we were all earning more than that, and he became sad.
If you earn enough to support family and got savings for retirement can already. Be happy. No point comparing with others. It will make you sad and resentful.

You are absolutely right. There will always who will earn more than you and richer than you. If you keep on looking at them, you will never be contented. Look at those who are less fortunate than you and you will feel you are the luckiest person on earth.
I used to be in the rat race, worked very hard day and night, long hours, until I got sick. I realized that money is meaningless if you are not healthy. The best gift a person can have is his health. The air we breathe, the sunlight we enjoy, should not be taken for granted. These are gifts from the One and Only Creator. We should be thankful.
I am now in my fifties, and I have decided to devote the rest of my life towards helping others. I am happy with the passive dividend of $60,000 per year. Together with my wife's salary of $70,000 per year, we have more than enough. I have paid off my 5 room Executive HDB flat mortgage and my car loan, so we don't spend much. We manage to save $30,000 per year, which we continue to invest and growing our more than a million dollar stocks portfolio. I now spend my time exercising and doing charity work. I feel my family is very much blessed.
