hello friend, investment banking is about trading using client's money. retail trading is about trading your own money. ib traders generate income through commissions and arbitrage. many people think retail trading can be a source of income. in fact, if the income is not reinvested back into trading, you can never cover back your losses and grow your portfolio. at the end of the day, you can only keep a small amount from retail trading. not to mention many brokers are trading against you.

hello friend, portfolio is just a set of shares you own. it's actually very easy. just buy the shares at the market ask price, or sell at the market bid price. the moment you enter a transaction, you need to a transaction cost. and because you are buying at a higher price and selling at the lower price always, this is the spread you pay. shares can fluctuate a lot but it is still within spread limits, so it's hard to make a profit. if i have spare cash to invest, i would buy high paying dividend stocks and collect income from dividends without much worries.

Hi Jimmy,
Your question is slightly ambiguous, kindly elaborate more please.
I presume that you're looking into career prospects and upgrading of networth through investment returns.
Career Prospects : It is very difficult to gauge but should you not mind political and high paying sector, proceed to bank especially Sales (RM,PB,IB-er) but do note that it is not going to be easy (never an easy way).
Investment returns: Do readup on daily news (ST,BT,Bloomberg,W.S etc) and learn on F.A/T.A.
To end off, no one would teach you (or dares to educate you) and equipped you with utmost financial knowledge else losing their own rice bowls. However, there are few kind souls (especially retirees) who is willing to advice and profile you.
Take Care.
