We are talking about individuals not corporations. Starting salary and the brand name of a unicorn makes a huge difference for your later career - i thought you would be smart enough to know that

Join these tech companies then hop to FAANG later la - get huge salary increase. Do u know how many CS people FAANG takes from unicorn companies?

Thats beside the point anyway - even big companies like like DBS pay its CS people way more on average than the median biz student.

3rd class CS go into DBS SEED programme alr easy 4.2k. I see you 3rd class finance go where.

Anyway you no industry experience dont come here talk pls, sounds like you're an average dude who have no idea about career progression or the tech industry

Doesn't matter if people from other countries can "code cheaper" than us. At the end of the day, CS grads are paid more than most others - you can check the employment survey yourself if you need some kind of gauge. If you make it into FAANG, even better. Of course, medicine and IB are in a different league, that one everybody knows, so no surprises there.

Judging by your reaction, looks like he really hit the nail with the comparison of CS and finance grads. Guess we know which faculty you were from...

The good ones from India/china also know their worth...

They come to Singapore to make big bucks and have better opportunity

Fresh grad from NIT, IIT join these companies and make 5k+ starting pay still

And why companies wont hire them and meet their demands? They do the job well, can code better than our locals

Not sure where everyone gets their info, but pay in CS isn't so much by your class of honors but by your ability to game the interviews. That itself is another bag of worms. The pay range is correct though. There's something like a double median distribution, one for tier 1 firms like google & other tech giants, another for tier 2 firms like grab, shopee. Then there's tier 3 that's probably DBS, ST & the like. There's also gov or statboard jobs but those pay somewhere around tier 2, but with engineering culture from 3. Tier 1 should be paying 6-8k, tier 2, 5-7k.

The culture and pay varies from firm to firm, so hard to say conclusively. These things do matter though.. amount of OT, traveling distance, engineering culture, job scope, really affect the actual amount of hours you put into your job.

My bad, 'bimodal distribution' is the right term.

"There's also gov or statboard jobs but those pay somewhere around tier 2... tier 2, 5-7k". Govt highest for fresh grads ~5k. You'll need to work a few years in those entities to see even 6xxx. I would band those with tier 3 (DBS, ST etc) where the range is from 3.5-5k.

Govt or statboard don't pay near tier 2 (if tier 2 is 5-7k). They pay more of 3.8-5k.
