I just need rough estimates, again, rough estimates. I have never been to Singapore, so it's difficult for me to give an objective response, when my experiences are subjective.

Any rough estimates to the variables in the equation would be much appreciated so that I can get a rough estimate of a salary.

Cheers.

Define 'living comfortably'. Some people can do without cars but some people will 'die' without owning cars. Some people is ok with 3 room flats but some people view living in condo as 'living comfortably'. It depends on the level of individual's material greed. For me, I earn $2k ++ and live in 4 room flat and I live comfortably.

me and wife earns about 250k per annum combined and still feel quite strained at times with one young toddler and another baby on the way.

think we need to hit about 4-500k to be really comfortable.

You must be joking. My spouse and I earn a total income of $130k pa and we feel comfortable. Our home is paid up using CPF and we can even afford to own a second hand car. But we don't splurge on employing a maid nor do we smoke nor drink.

Default couple 220k per annum

we are a 220k per annum, pre bonus 2 kids.
1 primary school going and a 2yo toddler. Late 30s couple

YES we are struggling, we both have our own 2nd hand jap cars , we need it to go to work. Lets not not about downgrade to 1 car, just not possible. Work is in a ulu place.

primary school kid, going with to few tuition sessions and enrichments, we would love to send him to more classes, but we are stretched.
Lets not forget we both have our own set of parents to give allowance to.
We have a maid to help look after toddler and cook and clean , nightly dinners with 1 set of parents in law, so a maid is absolutely necessary.
very few investments as we are worried one of us may get retrenched. No major euro holidays, just asia holidays, once or twice a year with only 1 child.

Really depends on your yardstick of "comfort", doesn't it?

Our combined income is now 420k+ and find it just nice for the usual family with 2 kids & car & condo & maid. Our plan is to maintain same living standard and hopefully any additional increase in income will go into savings/investment.
