Marketing/Communications roles in banks

Hi everyone,

I have some questions specific to marketing and/or communications roles in banks. Hope that marketers/communications professionals currently or previously working in such roles or HR professionals can advise! Particularly:

Remuneration:
1. What is the average bonus and annual increment a marketer (say of average performance) can expect in global/ foreign banks like Standard Chartered and Citi (and how does that compare to local banks)?
2. Would bonuses and increments be typically enjoyed every year or are drastic fluctuations expected?

Prospects and growth
3. Are promotions within marketing departments hard to come by? E.g likelihood of being stuck in the same grade/level for years, performance aside.
4. In relation to the above, is the grading/progression path for marketing roles similar across functions within the bank, or are they subject to an entirely different tier and grading structure?
5. Generally, based on yours or your colleagues' experience, has a marketing career in banks increased your marketability (pun intended!) and appeal to future employers, including large established companies outside of the financial services sector?

Culture and environment
6. Much has been said about banks being of a cut-throat, political and high-stress environment. How about their marketing departments? I understand that this can be a very subjective question, but sharing about your respective bank's environment will be very helpful.
7. Where do marketing departments in banks stand in the overall (perceived) pecking order? Are they typically valued or seen as "support staff"?

Thanks for your patience in reading thus far - I know that's a lot of questions! I am exploring opportunities in this industry as a mid-career hire and would really appreciate any advice for the above.
