Well you're no longer with the company, are you? Despite them paying you sky high prices? So it's not too bright.

This is what you said.

You said you started work in 2005.

Assuming you started in Jan 2005, till Oct 2006 is a grand total of 1 yr and 8 mths experience, not even 2 yrs; but you were paid 4.2k . This is the pay slip that I'm interested in.

You hold a normal office IT job, don't run your own business and not in sales or account servicing.

Since you no longer have your payslip, then I shall have to mark it down as hearsay and you'll forgive me for expressing doubt when:

1. The average starting pay for poly graduates is under 2k, private or public sector
2. Smaller companies pay worse than bigger companies
3. In less than 2 yrs (and that's assuming you started in Jan 2005), your pay sky leaped from 1.4k - 4.2k.
4. Barely 3 mths into your 2nd job, you ask for another $500, and they just gave it to you.

No worries guys, i dont mind to share my histories.. since they are quite some time ago (2006 - 2009).. i did abit of digging of my drawers and found some old pay slips. anyway, they are my time when im still working as a contract staff..

im unable to get a payslip which is 4.2k which i have converted to perm. the last image i uploaded 4.9k is my last drawn pay in the same coy which paid me 4.2k last time.

Below are my slips as a contract staff from 2006 - 2007/08

This thread is rife with poly students (and some unhappy undergraduates from the top 300 world universities) who have yet to stepped into the workforce but hold grandeur ideas of their qualifications and how things work.

Here's how things actually work:

If you hold a diploma, you will join a company as a support/admin staff. I repeat, suport/admin staff. Over the next two decades, you will move through the ranks of technical officer 1, 2, 3 (or it's equivalent) and your maximum pay will be pegged to whatever the company has negotiated with the trade union.

You will NEVER be promoted to an Executive scale unless you go complete your degree, and even if you saved the CEO's cat. The exceptions to this rule are your father's company, and jobs where qualifications don't matter at all. In which case, you can hold 'O' levels, no problem (ie. property agent, financial advisor).

If you actually did work in a company, you will know how laughable the stories are. Within the space of less than 2 yrs, an IT support staff became an IT engineer overnight.

If you are lucky, you might meet a nice chap like me, who encourages you to further your studies and allows you to go off early from work on certain days so that you can go attend your night class and get QUALIFIED.

If you are unlucky, you will find included in your job duties, buying breakfast in the morning for the executives which is oh so common.

I half-expect to see in the next post someone from ITE being offered 2k starting pay and got 5k after one year.

Thanks for your honesty. Your payslips don't match your story.

Quote:
second job (mid 2006) at IT mnc coy do IT as well with start pay 3.6k, 3months later i ask for revision, then pay become 4.2k.
Your pay slip for Dec 2006 says 2.6k, not 4.2.
Your pay slip for Feb 2007 says 3.2k and Nov 2007 is 4k, still way below the 4.2 you claimed to be getting by Oct 2006.

Quote:
Mid 2008, im asked to be perm, pay become 4.9k. Left coy at around sept 2009?. Last drawn 4.9k.. din wait to collect bonus (AWS)...3rd job, join a local GLC do IT.. start pay 5.3k...
Your pay slip for May 2009 says nett pay: 4029 but you claimed to be getting 4.9k in mid 2008.

Following your payslips and not your claims, your story is much more acceptable.

1. You were paid 3.2k in 2007, which is high for only 2 yrs of experience but still possible.
2. You graduated in 2008, and hence you were converted to an Executive level, so you drew 4k. Also possible.

The rest I cannot evaluate.

Hi, your pay sucks. From your little details, it looks like you are due for a promotion one way or another. If your first degree was completed full-time, you should be aiming for 4k.

Hi,

Can Bobo or anyone pls suggest how much should i be expecting as a graduate with 3 yrs of experience as a financial analyst? Is S$42K per annum reasonable? My friend is telling me that i can earn more than this amt if i work in a govt dept, is this true?

Thanks.
