the 2 main areas that have pretty good remunerations are in the areas of Education and Defence, the areas that take up a huge chunk of our national budget.

For Education, NUS, NTU, SMU and the Polytechnics are stat boards under the broader MOE unbrella, and they have been known to compete among themselves for staff. also, they need to compete with many private sector organisations like Kaplan, SIM, MDIS, PSB academy for talent so the area of salaries in that are pretty competitive as they have to fight a large brain drain.

For Defence, it is integral. DSO and DSTA have also been known to pay well, this is due to confidentiality and skill needed to do the task.
Faculty in NUS, NTU and SMU are paid well as they need to compete internationally for talent. I don't think the same can be said of admin staff, from what I heard from friends.

Does anyone know how much does an AD (afaik this is an entry position) in MTI earns, for let's say a position in the intl relations and policy formulation branch.

Do they give you extra allowances when you are required to travel?

if you come from a 'recognised overseas university', it would be MX for sure.

I would say about 2300-2400 if your are an average performer..
no honours not easy to get a good pay. - given that 80% of local grads have honours.
