Surprisingly, yes.

Just look at those in management. Observe their characters and deduce how they got there. So long as you appear to 'go with the flow' (even though it could be a wrong flow), you will be alright.

But at the end of the day when you reach home, you always question whether you are still a human being or a dog.

My gross pay seems v little as compared to pple in the civil service.. Saw some posting, there are civil servants who earn $4.5k to $5k after working a few yrs. hmm.. I actually tried applying for civil service job in 2006/2007 and was accepted. However I was given a low starting pay of $2.9k and need to work shifts during weekends and evenings. Basic pay without shift allowance is only $2.5k. Even when I apply for teaching, they only offered me $2.5k. So decided to stay with current job.

Wonder when can i even earn $5k per mth? Seems so far to reach... After looking at this forum, was wondering whether I can try applying for civil service job again.. The pay scale seems much better than before.
With such lousy academic credentials (you don't even have Honours), you better stay put in the private sector. The private sector is more about the number of years 'clocked'.

In the civil service, it's more about quality paper qualification. You can 'clock' far less number of years in civil service, but still earn more than someone who has been 'clocking' far more number of years in private sector.

What i want to say here is that no risk no gain,if you want higher pay scale, stay in big condo and drive a flashy car, go for private sector.Civil sector is for ppl who just want a iron rice bowl. Bear in mind, only company that is making big money will pay you gd pay.
Wow! What the hack are you doing now??

That's a giant leap FIVE TIMES (~$3K to $15K)!!!

Now - 38 year old .

Stat board : Airport
Starting pay was $3.7K in 2007
Now $4.7K gross monthly salary (doesnt include the bonuses).
Average performer: Every year default C grade (1.5mth PB)
Employment: 2years + 3 years contract (Not even perm)
Job satisfaction : Lousy, alot of backstabbing, non-ethical because of PB. Bosses just want to protect own backside. Different team within division will try to push responsiblity to the others when things happen. Job is more focus on writting "beautiful" essay (may be non-ethical and does not reflect the actual situation) to get extra funding and pushing responsibility to other party. The main objective/ motto is : As long as the ball is not in my court, it none of my business. If something happen, pass the hot potato to someone else.
You are a really sad case.

To hell with contracts! Do not expect to get promotions even if you work your guts off!

Damn right. I graduated with local university Honours. A guy with just a 'Pass with merit' is earning more than me. What the hell??

i'd say this is pretty average.
You wouldn't get $3.9K in the private sector, 'cos you haven't 'clock' enough years. Be grateful they are paying you this much.

You probably are not in Civil service? I know how lousy private sector compensation package is right now...

When my bond was over, I switched to the private sector, working as a designer. This is my dream job, as I'm passionate about art and design. I was very happy back then, even though I took a 15% paycut.

Now, 2.5 years down the road, I'm making 4k a month, still loving the work. However, I'm getting increasingly disgrunted about my relatively low pay, seeing that the majority of my friends are easily making 1-2k more than me. I'm also somewhat affected by the fact that my work is "non-graduate" in nature... it's silly, I know.

Now seriously considering going back to the teaching service for maybe 500-1000 more per month, is it worth it?
Think about the reasons you left teaching for a second and you will know whether you should go back.

Actually I find this crappy. Why don't they benchmark salaries to different industries? You age and sex determines how much you can earn??? Ridiculous.

If that were the case, Michael Jackson shouldn't be earning truck-loads of money at a young age?

It make it seem like pay in Singapore is not tied to a person's hardwork or talent. REAL STUPID.
